Jody Mitic is a former Canadian soldier who lost both lower legs when he stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan. I learned about him, and his book, when I heard him interviewed on Jocko Willink's podcast. (Willink is a former US Navy SEAL.) The stories about his background and his military career are very interesting, but the story about his recovery after being wounded (and having to break an addiction to painkillers) is riveting. Excellent read.

Learned of this book through Trailer Park Boys interestingly enough.. Read the book and was captivated. Just an all around great read for anyone interested in military life. Jody is a very interesting person. Now currently listen to his Podcast and follow him on all social media! Highly recommend!

Good book, takes you into the military warrior's mind set/thinking, day to day life in the military and how they don't give up through family pressures, training, deployment, crazy orders, set backs, or otherwise...sometimes they would like too but they find a way. These kinds of men are truly the best of society on many levels. The book isn't a treatise or anything like that, it's just more of Jody's take on the making of a Canadian Sniper, just what the title says. I enjoyed it...and very much appreciated Jody's sacrifice and honor.

Wonderful story about a real Canadian soldier. We'll written, engaging and real. It is a study of individual courage and initiative in a tough situation. It depicts the professionalism of the Canadian Army in a realistic and non-gung ho manner. Canada should be proud.

the bulk of the book is about his fighting time which is what appealed to me & it just barely mentioned that he went into politics after his tragic injury

A fantastic read which gives a soldiers perspective of a military career and what happens after being wounded. Jody is someone whom we can all learn from.

I bought this for a friend's grandson after he was involved in a serious car crash. I read it and found it to be very inspiring.

Jody's store is one for all. A story of perseverance and the heart of our warriors.

As a teacher and mother to an almost 5 year old, I was very excited when I saw that there was a phonics set for the Pete the Cat series. My son loves those books! However, once I opened the book and started reading them, I was sorely disappointed. There is no possible way that these can be used for their intended purpose of teaching a child to read. They are aligned with their "phonics" listed on the books, however the word choice is very poor. Rather than simple CVC sight words to help a child learn to read, or even the simple words and phrases used in the regular Pete the Cat books, these book use much higher level sight words and vocabulary. For example, book 1 focuses on the short a sound. Most "learn to read books" use words such as cat, hat, fan, had, bag, and so on. Not this book. The short a words included are: at, cat, bad, fan, oranges, sandwiches, banana, happy, breakfast, last, and that. The short e book (book 2), uses the words bed, bedtime, best, end, everyone, except, fed, friend, gets, instead. So not only are they not appropriate for beginning readers, they are not accurate examples of the short vowel sounds. Short i, uses the word third as a short i example. Third does not make a short i sound. The i in this word is an r-controlled vowel and makes the sound /er/ like in bird and herd. These are just a few of the issues with these books. They do have cute stories and my children enjoy them as short bedtime stories, so if you child(ren) enjoy(s) the Pete the Cat series, then this is a good purchase. Just don't expect them to be very helpful with learning vowel sounds accurately or helping to learn to read.

Here is the review I wish I'd read before I purchased this set:Book 1/Short a has these sentences: "Pete eats banana sandwiches for breakfast." and 'What makes Pete happy now? Oranges!"These are not words that can be sounded out by young readers. I wish I had bought Bob Books instead.

I shouldn't have expected so much with the price and amount of "books", but I was very disappointed in the quality. These are just folded paper stapled together. I'm returning them because after flipping through just once they felt like they were going to fall apart. My daughter loves Pete, but I'll invest in some higher quality books.

The books are cute but very very small and short. The price is good for the amount of books. Overall Depending on what you’re looking for

My students love Pete the Cat and I'm glad I have these in my classroom library. I struggle though with leveling them for students to read on an independent level. I wish these and others like it were labeled with suggested levels.

I bought these for my ESL students because they love the Biscuit I Can Read series and wanted to expand my library. I don't like some of the stories in here because they are edited down and don't make sense. For example, the bad banana story ends with him eating oranges instead! But I do think my students will enjoy reading these and being able to move up to the full-length Pete the Cat stories.

I was a bit skeptical about buying these for my son. I needed a way to help inprove his reading skills and bought these and another set similar from a different publisher. Even though these are the same level as the other set i bought they are a bit more challenging for a beginner reader, but they deliver good results in reading practice. My son has improved a lot since i bought these and reading has become more easy for him. I love that these are divided into short and long vowel sounds and gives you sight words at the beginning to look out for. These are definitely worth it for reading improvement.

My boy is six and just starting to read on his own. I found that he really enjoys these books and the are easy enough for him to sound words out himself, but easy enough that he doesn't struggle. Not to mention he likes the pictures that are included.If you are looking for something to help get your kids reading on their own, try these. He loves being able to read me a bedtime story for a change, and I enjoy it too!!!

The essay section in this edition has been greatly improved upon. The author has added new tactics to writing essays that could really help you in the long run. However, the math section is very similar to the Second Edition. I was expecting more of an in-depth explanation on these topics. Other than that, a job well done to the author for a well written book. Congratulations!

I liked it because it provided a good sample test for math along with many different lessons that are very helpful. Also, it provided an outstanding essay section which pinpoints on what you should not write in your essay and how to make it better.

Finding prep materials for the BCA entrance exam is not easy, and this book offers an excellent test prep tool for students. The material is well organized, and offers a comprehensive review of concepts requiring mastery on the BCA exam. I would definitely recommend this prep guide to students interested in attending BCA.

This was really helpful. The first few chapters are pretty basic, {everybody applying to BCA should know most or all of the first few chapters already}, but the practice problems were really useful, because as they say, practice makes perfect!

Excellent guide for my son to prepare for BCA test

This book is worth maybe $2.50 not $25. I opened the package to see a really poor quality, stretched out cover picture. That was my first hint of the quality inside and, in this case, "you can judge a book by its cover!" The pages of the book are literally like someone printed out a bunch of bad HTML and some notes and bound it together into a book. The content is just as bad...none of the challenging problems and detailed explanations I hoped for were in this book! If I could give it less than 1 star I would.I only just noticed the earlier editions (this is the 3rd) got terrible reviews. Clearly nothing much has changed. I suspect the 3rd edition exists only to get away from the poor reviews of the earlier editions. I just wish I saw those reviews earlier. Don't waste your money on this one.

Note: I bought the older edition last year and was given this updated one for free to review.I am a Math Tutor in Bergen County and this is the only book out there to help independent tutors prepare students for the Bergen Academies Exam. I was disappointed in the original version, I found it too easy in comparison to the sample questions and exam that is posted on the Bergen Academies website. However, this version has definitely been improved. The new Math test is formatted with similar level questions to the sample test that Bergen has posted. I would not use this book as your only source for prepping for the exam. However, I do believe this book is a must for any student looking to prepare for the exam. Some of the math practice drills seem easy and long, but the test doesn't allow a calculator so doing them should be a must so that students are confident in their basic skills.

This book is a big disappointment. I thought it would be filled with maps and diagrams of the places discussed. Nope. Just a couple of very basic maps and I do mean basic. Much of the information appears to be out-of-date and there are many omissions in the Roatan section so I am guessing the same goes for the rest of the book. The parts that I did read were so boring and generic that I really couldn't get more than a few pages in each section. Yeah, it has some nice color photos in the front of the book. But I could have gotten that elsewhere. BIG disappointment.

Lonely planet is always OK.I was with two othes and each of us had a different book.Mandatory to cross reference on any trip.

Good little book

I work and live in Central America. I am particularly involved with conservation and conservation education. I was extremely disturbed by the cover of this issue of Lonely Planet, which shows a photograph of a tethered Green Iguana. The Green Iguana is a protected species in Honduras as it is in many places due to it's rapidly dwindling population in the wild due to poaching. The process by which Green Iguana are tethered for sale and consumption is hugely cruel and involves them cutting the tendons out of the iguana while it is still alive and using them to tie the back legs together. If they capture a female iguana with eggs, this is even more valuable and so a string is tied around the iguana's stomach to stop her from being able to lay her eggs while her back legs are tied. She may be left in this condition in a pile of other iguanas for several days before being sold or consumed.I've always been a fan of Lonely Planet in the past and I'm sure that they have a large number of environmentally minded readers. I also believe that once those readers realise the editorial irresponsibility they have demonstrated in this edition, they will choose to find another publication.I sincerely hope they do the correct thing and make a sizeable donation to Green Iguana conservation programmes in Honduras as well as withdraw this edition and change the cover to something that is not promoting illegal poaching or animal cruelty.

Really useful tool for improving scores on MCAT CARS section. The passages were challenging, and the approaches presented were beneficial.

As a former MCAT taker I found this book to be invaluable. The texts are just as hard as the real thing and follow the same format. While not all of the questions asked perfectly reflect the real exam (which is true of any product from any test company), most of them are similar. This is a great start for those training for the verbal section of the MCAT exam.

What I really liked about this book was its comprehensive practice and explanations for the passages. The book starts out with familiarization of several different techniques that students use on the MCAT CARS section. What I believe is most helpful and extremely beneficial here (and what I gained the most from) is their emphasis that no one strategy is best. We, as MCAT takers, should practice all of them in depth to give us a sense of what we like most. The variety and extent of practice passages in the different half sections in this book give us great opportunity to practice different strategies to see what works best for us. In addition, they provide detailed explanations to better understand and give us the tools to guide ourselves to the correct answer.I definitely recommend this book for anyone taking the MCAT.

Great guide for the verbal section of the new MCAT. This is the second book that I have purchased with NextStep test prep - great books. The only thing is there is no color so the book looks a little boring. However, I found the explanations and tools in the appendices really helpful.

The approach to verbal here makes all the difference! Unlike other MCAT books, this book doesn't just push one strategy. It defines several methods for you, and then you use practice and tracking to find the right method for you.

I've gone through all the mcat test prep books. This is the only book that annotates everything from passage summary, key terms, main ideas, and reasoning for each question answer from front to back. I always wanted annotated passage guide.. and I'm really happy that they provided explanations for all the questions.
