Dr. Michael K. Lindell is Professor of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Texas A&M University; Senior Scholar, Hazard Reduction and Recovery Center, Texas A&M University; Adjunct Professor, Department of Psychology, Texas A&M University Dr. Lindell has over 30 years of experience in the field of emergency management, during which time he has conducted a long term program of research on the processes by which individuals and organizations respond to natural and technological hazards. Much of his research, especially that supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), has examined the processes by which affected populations respond to warnings of the imminent threat of a hazard. This research has been conducted in communities affected by hazards as diverse as flooding, volcanic eruption, hazardous materials, and hurricanes. Professor Lindell also has had extensive experience in providing technical assistance to government agencies, industry groups and private corporations in developing emergency plans and procedures. He has served six times as a consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency in developing planning guidance for response to nuclear and radiological incidents, has made three presentations in National Academy of Sciences panels, and is currently a member of two National Academy of Sciences panels - Disasters Research in Social Sciences and Assessing Vulnerabilities Related to the Nation's Chemical Infrastructure. Professor Lindell has written extensively on emergency management and is the author of 70 technical reports, 70 journal articles and book chapters, and six books/monographs.

I won't say I love it since it's a textbook but I do love the low price. Way better than my school's bookstore.

This was a required reading for an emergency management class I was taking for school (to be a teacher). The class was fairly difficult and not as interesting as I expected, thus I gave the book a 4 stars because it was a lot of detail and we didn't use a lot of it.

Received package in a timely matter and is a very good book on Emergency Management, Homeland Security & First Responders Handbook and is excellent to use in getting your Degree in Emergency Management -FEMA Certifications.

This was a well written book that covered everything you need to know about managing emergencies for the community. He did enjoy the class and said the book was well written.

Came in perfect condition, couldn't ask for more.

It was a textbook and read accordingly. As I live on Long Island and am part of an EM group, it filled in a lot of the gaps in my knowledge of the upper echelon. I'd recommend it to those starting to actively work in an EM group.

Why spend 120. more and get the newer version. This book was required, actually the 11th ed. was, but this is 99% the same. I would buy this again in a heart beat. If a professor gave an assignment from a question in the book, I would ask someone who paid 150. for the new 11th ed, and get the questions. All the graphs and images are the same as the 11th too. If you are buying this book for any other reason than a requirement, it will provide you with all the information one would need to begin selling via marketing.

Collegebooksdirect illegally covered portions of the book that stated it was an "Instructors Edition" with duct tape and placed a bar code over the "Not For Sale" bar code on the back of the book. I contacted both Amazon.com and Collegebooksdirect to address this issue with no solution from either company. Instead, Collegebooksdirect stated that this is common practice for them (which clearly violates Amazon.com's selling rules and guidelines) and that I should have contacted them earlier. I stated to both the companies that I was under the assumption that the book was a "Student Edition" and did not have any idea that under the tape concealed the listing "Instructors Edition". I did not receive any refund, and both companies refuse to address the situation. BE AWARE! This company sells products that are illegal to transfer!!!!

Was one edition behind the one I needed but it sufficed.

The book title shows up as Selling Today: Creating Customer Value but it usually leaves out "with computers" so i accidentally ordered this one nstead of the right one. make sure it's the one you want

Did Corinne Michaels write this? Nobody even died. I kid. On a serious note, though, Evermore was a fantastic re-entry to the Salvation world. It’s been a minute since I’d read any of the books and while I did remember the broad strokes, it was good to have the refresher of who everyone was and how they all connected. Gretchen and Ben’s relationship was adorable and I’m so happy we got to know their story.I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, especially one that began when they were just children and their first chance at love ended before it ever really started. Gretchen and Ben had such fantastic chemistry from the beginning, from the first second they reconnected the connection they shared was palpable. They had both been damaged by the people who should have cared for them most in the past; their reunion seemed fated.I loved both Gretchen and Ben, and how they supported one another. The damages that had been done to them by their exes was profound and watching them slowly piece each of their broken parts back together. Their love was so pure and true; it was a thing of beauty to see them rediscover and nurture it into something vital and healing.Evermore is a novella in Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series; it would most likely be billed as book 5.5. The Salvation series is a series of two duets and a standalone, which are all interconnected. The duets must be read in order, but otherwise, the stories don’t have to be read in order. Evermore is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Gretchen and Ben.

I absolutely loved Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series and when I heard she was going to write a novella for Catherine’s best friend, Gretchen, I was over the moon.This novella did not disappoint and it felt like a reunion of some of my favorite characters from the series. The real stars though are Ben and Gretchen. They were childhood friends and they find themselves back in each other’s orbit. The sparks are still there, but they are both dealing with pain and heartbreak.This novella was amazing and fans of the Salvation series will love it.

If I could give Evermore more than 5 stars, I would. I love Ben & Gretchen! I love the people they are and who they become together. If you are a fan of the Salvation Series, this is a must read.I enjoyed getting to see all of my favorite Seals from previous books and of course their better halves. I love the friendship Ashton, Gretchen, & Cat have and enjoyed seeing it again.I will say if you have not read any Salvation Series books before, you don’t have to in order to read this book.

Evermore by Author Corinne Michaels is a novella in the amazing Salvation Series. It is an interconnected series about Navy Seals and the women they love...strong women. This is Ben and Gretchen’s book. It is a wonderful story. So good, that dare I say I want to beg for more books in the series. If the author is reading this...pretty please!Now, back to the book. Gretchen and Ben were best friends as children. When they reconnect as adults the sparks fly. The problem is that they have both been hurt by exes and life in general. They aren’t quick to trust what they feel or relationships in general. The push and pull and amazing chemistry between them is undeniable, even to them.The love that they shared and built on is a thing of beauty. They raise each other up and fill in the cracks left by others.I highly recommend this book and the series. Did I mention that if the author is reading this...more Salvation Series please? Whistles off to In The Navy by the Village people while mentally visualizing Fleet Week.

There is just something about a story with hard working, military men, with hearts of gold that make me fall hard. Add to the story a strong, smart, heartbroken woman who reconnects with her childhood love - I am officially a huge mess of emotions falling in love with this book! Gretchen and Ben first fell in love with each other in middle school, but after Ben’s family moves away, Gretchen is devastated and never truly moves on. When they reconnect years later at Cole Security- it like they never were apart. Both damaged by past love, they need to overcome trust issues and personal insecurities to find their forever love. This book was a wonderful addition to the Salvation series - these men and women are some of my favorite characters. 5 Stars for me!

This is a novella to the Salvation series. This is Ben & Gretchen's story. Ben and Gretchen have a history. They were friends as teenagers until fate separated them. They are no reunited and the chemistry is still there but they are both broken. Ben from war and his ex wife and Gretchen from her ex. Is there chemistry enough to mend broken hearts and help each other heal? I really loved these characters and their story. As with the other books they are in a series but can be read as stand alone but I highly recommend starting at the beginning and reading the entire series. You will not be disappointed and then you will know all the characters who make appearances throughout the books.

I have been wanting to dive back into the lives of these characters for so so long. How I've missed the feelings this series evokes from the brotherhood, the friendships and the feel it deep in your bones love. My heart ached for Ben and all he has been through after dedicating his life to what he was meant to do. Michaels writes such amazingly strong women who I respect and try to emulate in real life. Gretchen is another glowing example of this. She's the friend you want in our corner.I only wish Evermore wasn't a novella but a full length novel, I wasn't ready to let Ben and Gretchen go so quickly!!

There’s a new seal in town and he DOESN’T DISAPPOINT! Oh Ben your going to be stealing hearts fast! I was home again , I’ve missed the gang from the Salvation Series. Revisiting old friends making new ones. if you haven’t Read the series( I highly suggest you do) don’t worry you can read as a stand alone . Don’t miss this , you’ need to read this! Judge Posner's "Reflections" is a readable and witty overview of the challenges facing the judiciary and legal profession in a time of increasingly complex cases.Judge Posner invites lawyers and judges to tackle the increased complexity of the law in at least three ways. First, he urges lawyers and judges to use pictures and simplify their briefs and opinions. For example, he writes that "seeing a case makes it come alive to judges," yet "[l]awyers' lack of a visual sense . . . is a striking professional deformity. I do not understand it. Information can often be presented more efficiently in pictorial than verbal form." He also tells lawyers and judges to use "coloring book" facts, such as stories or other background material (even if outside the record) to help the reader understand "the technological or commercial setting of a case."Second, despite his reputation as a legal theorist, Judge Posner has practical tips to improve jury trials based on his experiences from serving as a trial judge. Among other things, he advocates time limits on trials and recommends that judges use more frequently their power to appoint neutral experts.Third, Judge Posner presents his "Posner model" of avoiding excessive reliance on junior lawyers or clerks preparing briefs and opinions. He correctly observes that the growth of associates in law firms and law clerks in the federal courts has contributed to the unnecessary lengthening of briefs and opinions. He goes as far as to present an opinion from a federal appeals court that takes up several pages of text and compares his version, which takes a little more than a page. The difference is striking.In short, Judge Posner's "Reflections" should help lawyers and judges to argue and rule more effectively and with more style and more professional satisfaction. Hopefully, in the process, this will improve the public's confidence in the judicial system.

It is easy to see from this book why Judge Posner has become the most frequently cited legal commentator. His range of interests is immense, ranging from law and economics, to national security issues, to the 2000 election, and various jurisprudential topics. Recently, he has focused on his colleagues, federal judges, in several books. This book continues that interest. It is diverse in topics and approaches; but always informative and stimulating.First, to illustrate how one can be selected for the federal judiciary, he devotes the introductory chapter to a brief autobiography. He is particularly interested in suggesting issues that new judges should consider as they ascend the bench. He also introduces one of his major concerns: increasing technical "complexity" that faces judges as they adjudicate challenging cases.To fill in background, Posner next discusses the evolution of the federal judiciary. He raises here several of his fundamental concerns: excessive growth of staff; should law clerks on the appellate level be assigned initial drafting responsibility for opinions (a vehement no!); and the adoption of basic managerial tools to structure judicial caseloads.A third chapter is devoted to his key concern of "complexity." I found this very long chapter not to be particularly effective. He does a better and shorter job on this in his Introduction to the book. One important point that does emerge is that courts may generate their own complexity by deciding cases in a "formalistic" way rather than employing a realistic approach. This reflects Posner's recent shift toward pragmatism in his writings. He develops this theme in depth in his chapter four. Basically instead of conventional legal analysis, Posner wants judges to employ more practical sense and concern about the consequences of their decisions. I think this is one of his most crucial points and this chapter bears careful reading.Posner argues that appellate records are often insufficient. Surprisingly, to me at least, he advocates that appellate judges freely utilize Google research to fill out inadequate factual records. More use should be made of maps and pictures in opinions to help clarify decisions. Counsel who argue appellate cases should find this chapter of particular interest.A most interesting chapter is on "coping strategies." These are techniques appellate judges can use to avoid resolving complexities they face in cases. Judicial self-restraint comes in for a challenging working over by Posner. A particularly rich chapter discusses the very concept of interpretation. His target here is (not for the first time) Justice Scalia's originalism, as discussed in depth in his book (co-authored with Brian Gardner) "Reading Law." By the time his extensive analysis is concluded, its brutal efficiency leaves little of the Scalia approach still standing. This is as fine an example of masterful legal analysis as I have seen. Given all the fussing over how to interpret statutes and the Constitution, this chapter makes a significant contribution to bringing some clarity to this debate.Several more chapters are directed at the appellate process. Tips on opinion writing and appellate advocacy comprise chapter 8. In the next chapter, Posner recounts why he recommends that appellate judges without trial experience spend some time presiding (as they may) over district court trials. Chapter 10 discusses additional recommendations to improve the appellate process. A conclusion raps it all up.So, Posner covers a large amount of ground in 370 pages. This is one of those books where reading the footnotes (which are actually footnotes) is essential. Sometimes the judge does go on a bit too long in making a point (witness the complexity chapter); but if this is "fat" I am all for it. One of the most stimulating books one can read on the federal appellate judiciary, which what with the recent filibuster modifications, is as always heating up as an issue.

They did so to survive the assinine embargo of thier island, but in doing so they have shown the way for all of us to move to a sane mode of food production. You would want this book to be a delightful description of that process. You would be wrong. It is a leaden, tedious exercise in socialist writing with all the wit and charm of a phone book. Skip the book and just go to Cuba and see the results for yourself. Then come home and plant a garden.

I love the way this book analyzes and breaks down exactly what Cuba did and how it implemented sustainable agriculture throughout the island. Very readable, and the topic can't be beat.
